El País reports general news and has the highest circulation in southwestern Colombia. Its headquarters are in Cali (Valle del Cauca), one of the country’s most important cities. It is a traditional paid newspaper with significant impact on the formation of public opinion in the region.
It was founded in 1950 by Álvaro Lloreda Caicedo, an entrepreneur and conservative regional political leader. The newspaper’s management has always been in the hands of the Lloreda Family. Family members are the majority shareholders. The family’s third generation currently controls the newspaper and the media company.
