He is a Venezuelan entrepreneur, born in the the State of Barinas. Although in the early years of Hugo Chávez government was personally linked to him, today he is recognized as an opponent to the Venezuelan government.

He owns the largest insurance company in Venezuela, the Multinacional de Seguros. He is also the owner and president of the professional baseball team Bravos de Margarita and some information websites point him out as the owner of the Circuito Radio Venezuela, which includes various radio stations.

In 2011 with the opposition journalist Alberto Federico Ravell, he buys the Canal Cable Noticias.
