Canal Capital

The Canal Capital is regional public channel, which broadcast from Bogotá D.C. It can be seen through open signal in the coverage area, at national level through DTT and by subscription (cable or satellite). It registers 2% of preference from audience in the country, according to General Media Survey.
The channel’s editorial line has undergone variations with the change of local governments, which has a direct impact on its management. Although it has a general-interest programming, most of its current spaces are oriented to dealing with political, cultural and human rights issues, with an active participation of different entities of the district.
The Canal Capital was created through the Agreement 019 of October 1995 of Bogotá’s City Council and had its first broadcast in November 1997. In the incorporation of the company Canal Capital Ltda., the partners were: Bogotá City Hall, the Instituto Distrital de Cultura y Turismo and the Empresa de Telecomunicaciones Bogotá – ETB. In the year 2000, the ETB transfered its shares to the Bogotá City Hall, leaving the company incorporated by two partners.
In 2012 the new management of Canal Capital leaded by Hollman Morris (today councilor of Bogotá), transformed the programming that imitated spots of the commercial programs and broaden the spaces aimed at cultural, educational, current political issues, and human rights contents.
The opinion and political debate spot that the channel has opened during the management of its last managers (Hollman Morris and Lisandro Duque Naranjo) has placed it as one of the best rated entities by the citizens, according to the citizen’s perception survey Bogotá Cómo Vamos. Likewise, the Opinion Panel of the Cifras y Concepto Magazine, positioned it as the public channel most consulted by the opinion leaders in Bogotá.
The Canal Capital received the Honorable Mention for media of the Antonio Nariño Franco – German Human Rights Award in 2013, for their promotion of human rights.
