Q´hubo

The Q’hubo newspaper is the Colombia’s main popular newspaper. It has a local edition in each of the 12 departments in which it circulates. It is printed in colour. It is an example of yellow journalism, using large images with little text. The name and structure is consistent across all 12 local editions. Q'hubo arose as a strategy to deal with the economic crisis of print media through unifying various local popular newspapers under a single brand.
It is owned by Grupo Nacional de Medios S.A., composed of regional media companies that also publish recognized traditional regional newspapers such as El Colombiano, El País, Vanguardia Liberal, El Universal.
History and recent developments:
The popular newspaper Q'hubo was driven by the Grupo Nacional de Medios S.A. (GNM) in October 2008. The creation of a national newspaper was achieved through the unification of the popular local newspapers El País of Cali (Q'hubo), El Colombiano of Medellín (La Chiva), Vanguardia Liberal of Bucaramanga (Nuestro Diario) and El Universal of Cartagena (Nuestro Diario). The companies that own these newspapers are the partners and owners of Grupo Nacional de Medios.
The Q'hubo brand, created in 2005 in Cali by El País S.A. was judged to be the most appropriate for a national project.
According to the General Media Survey EGM Q'hubo was the most widely read newspaper in Colombia in 2015, significantly ahead of its nearest rival: the free newspaper ADN of the El Tiempo publishing house.
